What Kisspeptin-10 is
Kisspeptin is a family of peptides produced from the KISS1 gene that act on the KISS1 receptor in the hypothalamus. Kisspeptin-10 is the ten-amino-acid C-terminal fragment that carries the full activity. In 2003 two groups showed that people with inactive KISS1 receptors do not go through puberty, which established kisspeptin as the switch above gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in the reproductive axis. When kisspeptin binds its receptor, GnRH is released, then luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary.
What the research found
Human physiology. Waljit Dhillo's group at Imperial College London has run most of the human work. Kisspeptin-54 given to healthy volunteers raised LH, FSH and testosterone (Dhillo and colleagues, 2005). Kisspeptin-10 given as a bolus or infusion to healthy men also raised LH and testosterone (George and colleagues, 2011), with a shorter duration of action than the 54-residue form.
IVF. Jayasena and colleagues (Journal of Clinical Investigation, 2014) used a single injection of kisspeptin-54 to trigger egg maturation in 53 women undergoing IVF, with births resulting. Later trials extended this to women at high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation. This is the most clinically advanced use of kisspeptin and it is for the 54-residue form under specialist supervision, not for kisspeptin-10 as sold.
Other studies. Kisspeptin has been studied in men with low testosterone of hypothalamic origin, in women with hypothalamic amenorrhoea, and in brain imaging studies of sexual and emotional processing. Continuous exposure desensitises the receptor and suppresses the axis, the opposite of a pulse, which is a point every animal and human study makes.
What is missing. No licensed product anywhere, no long-term safety data, and no trial of kisspeptin-10 outside physiology studies.
Stability, storage and handling
Supplied lyophilised in a sealed vial. Keep unopened vials at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius or frozen for long storage, away from light. Reconstituted solutions degrade over days to weeks. The certificate should show HPLC purity and mass spectrometry identity.
Legal status in the UK, 2026
Not a controlled substance under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Not a licensed medicine anywhere, so it cannot be sold or advertised for human use in the UK; supplied strictly for laboratory research. It is not named on the WADA Prohibited List, but substances that raise testosterone through the reproductive axis fall under the general terms of section S2 and athletes should treat it as prohibited.
What to check before buying
Milligrams per vial, HPLC purity, mass spectrometry identity, a batch number matching the certificate, and cold-chain shipping. Every Origin Peptides batch is independently tested and its certificate of analysis is published on the product page and the Lab Testing page.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between kisspeptin-10 and kisspeptin-54?
Same receptor, different length. Kisspeptin-54 has the longer duration and the IVF trial data; kisspeptin-10 is the minimal active fragment used in physiology studies.
Has kisspeptin been tested in humans?
Yes, in physiology studies and an IVF trial, all with kisspeptin-54 or -10 under research conditions. There is no licensed product.
What happens with continuous exposure?
The receptor desensitises and the axis is suppressed. Every study makes this point.
Is kisspeptin-10 legal in the UK?
Legal to buy and possess as a research compound; not lawful to sell or advertise for human consumption.
