Trenbolone side effects and Cardarine: what the research separates

2 min readUpdated 10 Oct 2026

Summary of published research for laboratory reference. Products are not for human consumption.

Trenbolone and Cardarine appear together in a great many online logs, usually with the claim that the second offsets the cardiovascular side effects of the first. That claim deserves a careful look, because the two compounds come from different worlds. Trenbolone is a veterinary anabolic steroid and a Class C controlled drug in the UK. Cardarine (GW-501516) is a PPAR delta agonist that was developed as a lipid drug and never reached the market. This guide separates what is known about each from what is assumed about the pair.

Trenbolone: what the literature reports

Trenbolone acetate is licensed for cattle in some countries and has never been approved for human use. Its human safety data comes from case reports and from studies of anabolic steroid users generally. The recurring findings are a large fall in HDL cholesterol with a rise in LDL, raised blood pressure, left ventricular changes on echocardiography, profound suppression of natural testosterone, night sweats, insomnia and mood disturbance. Rodent work at Georgia Regents University in 2013 found that trenbolone produced similar lean mass gains to testosterone with less prostate growth, which is the only sense in which it resembles a SARM. In the UK it is Class C under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971: possession for personal use in medicinal form is not an offence, but supply and import for supply are. We do not stock it.

Cardarine: what the trials measured

Cardarine was developed by GlaxoSmithKline and Ligand in the 1990s as a treatment for dyslipidaemia. In phase I and II trials it raised HDL cholesterol by up to 17 percent and lowered triglycerides in healthy volunteers and in people with low HDL, over two to twelve weeks. Rodent studies found that it increased fatty acid oxidation and, combined with exercise, improved running endurance substantially. Development stopped in 2007 after a two year rodent carcinogenicity study found tumours in several tissues at high doses. Those findings, and the absence of any long term human data, are the reason Cardarine is treated with caution in the research literature. Our Cardarine research guide covers each of those studies.

The combination claim

The logic online is simple: trenbolone crushes HDL, Cardarine raises it, so one cancels the other. The research does not support a conclusion either way, because no study has tested the two together, in animals or in humans. Cardarine's HDL effect was measured in people with normal hormones, not in people whose lipids were being pushed in the opposite direction by a potent androgen. Assuming the effects simply add is a hypothesis, not a finding. The same applies to the blood pressure and cardiac structure changes seen with trenbolone, which Cardarine has never been shown to affect at all.

Where the evidence actually points

If the research question is about cardiovascular markers, the compounds with human data are the ones to study. Cardarine's lipid trials are real, if short. The SARMs with human trials, Ostarine and Ligandrol, both lowered HDL modestly and reversibly, which is a far smaller effect than that reported for anabolic steroids. Our guides SARMs versus steroids and prohormones and Are SARMs safe? set out those comparisons with sources.
