What is the legal position in the UK in 2026? The position for steroidal compounds is different from the position for SARMs and it is worth being precise. Anabolic and androgenic steroids are Class C controlled substances under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 in the United Kingdom, and armistane is a steroidal molecule. Is armistane banned in sport? Yes. Aromatase inhibitors are prohibited at all times under section S4.1 of the WADA prohibited list, which names this class explicitly. Anti doping laboratories screen for aromatase inhibitors and related androstadienedione compounds as a matter of routine.

How does armistane differ from a licensed aromatase inhibitor? The mechanism class is shared, but the evidence base is not. Anastrozole, letrozole and exemestane went through full clinical development with published trials, defined pharmacokinetics and regulatory review. Armistane has none of that. It is a research chemical whose activity is inferred from its chemical class rather than demonstrated in controlled studies.
