What DSIP is
Delta sleep-inducing peptide is a nine-amino-acid peptide isolated in 1977 by Schoenenberger and Monnier in Basel from the blood of rabbits in electrically induced sleep. Infused into other rabbits it increased slow-wave (delta) sleep, which gave it its name. It has been found in human blood and tissues since, but its receptor and mechanism have never been identified, and its status as a natural sleep regulator remains unproven nearly fifty years on.
What the research found
Sleep. Human studies in the 1980s, mostly from Schneider-Helmert's group, gave DSIP to insomniacs and healthy volunteers and reported improved sleep quality in some and no effect in others. Doses, routes and outcomes varied and the studies were small. A 1990s review concluded the sleep-promoting effect in humans was inconsistent.
Stress and endocrine. Animal studies reported that DSIP moderated the cortisol and ACTH response to stress and altered body temperature and locomotor rhythms.
Pain and withdrawal. Small trials in the 1980s reported reduced pain in chronic pain patients and reduced symptoms in alcohol and opioid withdrawal; none was repeated.
What is missing. Any modern placebo-controlled trial, any identified receptor, and any consensus on what DSIP does in people. Of all the peptides in the research market it has the largest gap between the name and the evidence.
Stability, storage and handling
Supplied lyophilised in a sealed vial. Keep unopened vials at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius or frozen for long storage, away from light. Reconstituted solutions degrade over days to weeks. The certificate should show HPLC purity and mass spectrometry identity. DSIP is also reported to be unstable in plasma with a half-life of minutes, which is one reason the human studies are hard to interpret.
Legal status in the UK, 2026
Not a controlled substance under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Not a licensed medicine anywhere, so it cannot be sold or advertised for human use in the UK; supplied strictly for laboratory research. Not named on the WADA Prohibited List.
What to check before buying
Milligrams per vial, HPLC purity, mass spectrometry identity, a batch number matching the certificate, and cold-chain shipping. Every Origin Peptides batch is independently tested and its certificate of analysis is published on the product page and the Lab Testing page.
Frequently asked questions
Does DSIP induce sleep in humans?
The 1980s studies were inconsistent and no modern trial exists. The name comes from the rabbit experiments.
What is DSIP's receptor?
Unknown. No receptor has been identified in nearly fifty years.
Is DSIP related to melatonin?
No. Different molecules; some animal studies looked at interactions but nothing is established.
Is DSIP legal in the UK?
Legal to buy and possess as a research compound; not lawful to sell or advertise for human consumption.
