What trenavar is
Trenavar, correctly trendione, is the 17-keto analogue of trenbolone. Trenbolone is a veterinary anabolic steroid licensed for cattle in the United States and never licensed for human use; trendione differs only at the 17 position, where a ketone replaces the hydroxyl group. That is the same relationship androstenedione has to testosterone, and it is why trenavar is called a prohormone: the body's 17b-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase enzymes reduce the 17-keto group and produce the active hormone.
It appeared on the retail supplement market around 2011 and was added to the controlled substance list in the United States by the Designer Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 2014. It has never been studied as a medicine.
What the research shows
The published literature is small and comes almost entirely from analytical and anti-doping chemistry. Work from the Cologne and Rome anti-doping laboratories in 2012 to 2015 characterised trendione and confirmed, in vitro and in excretion studies, that it is converted to trenbolone and to the same urinary metabolites (principally epitrenbolone) that trenbolone itself produces. The practical consequence for sport is that a trenavar user tests positive for trenbolone.
Receptor binding studies on the trenbolone parent show it binds the androgen receptor with roughly three times the affinity of testosterone and does not aromatise, while also binding the progesterone receptor. Those figures are what retailers mean when they describe trenavar as the most potent prohormone: they describe receptor affinity in an assay, not any measured effect in a person, and potency in a binding assay says nothing about safety.
There are no human trials of trendione or of oral trenbolone. The human safety information comes from case reports on trenbolone-containing products (cardiovascular events, lipid changes, suppression of endogenous testosterone measured on recovery) and from the veterinary toxicology file for trenbolone acetate, which was compiled for cattle at implant doses and does not translate to humans. Researchers should treat the absence of human data as the central fact about this compound.
How trenavar differs from SARMs and from epistane
SARMs are non-steroidal; trenavar is a 19-nor steroid. Epistane is also steroidal but is orally active as itself and is 17-alpha-methylated, which is the modification associated with cholestatic liver injury. Trenavar is not 17-alpha-methylated and is instead a true precursor that depends on enzymatic conversion. The three products in our prohormone range therefore represent three different chemistries, which is why they are documented separately rather than as one category.
Legal status in the UK, 2026
Trendione is not listed under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 in the United Kingdom, so possession is lawful. It is not a licensed medicine, and selling or advertising it for human consumption would make it an unlicensed medicinal product; SARMs Store sells it strictly for laboratory research. In the United States it has been a Schedule III controlled substance since 2014. Testing and how to read the certificate
Trendione is a 19-nor triene and is reasonably stable in capsule form when kept cool and dry, but retail products in this category have a poor record for label accuracy. A batch certificate should show identity by HPLC or LC-MS against a trendione reference standard, a purity figure, and a batch number matching the bottle.
